چکیده

We report the generation and detection of spin–orbit torque ferromagnetic resonance (STFMR) in micropatterned epitaxial Fe/Pt bilayers grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The magnetic field dependent measurements at an in-plane angle 45° with respect to microwave-current direction reveal presence two distinct voltage peaks indicative a strong anisotropy. show that STFMR can be employed probe underlying properties, including anisotropies Fe layer. compare our results broadband spectroscopy magneto-optical Kerr effect unpatterned bilayer thin films. experimental are interpreted using analytical formalism further confirmed micromagnetic modeling which sheds light on field-dependent magnetization alignment microstructures responsible for rectification. Our demonstrate simple efficient method determining means rf spectroscopy.

Magnetic anisotropy of epitaxial MgO/Fe/MgO films studied by network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance

The dynamic magnetic properties of MgO/Fe epitaxial thin films are investigated through a network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance in the 0–26-GHz range. The high-frequency response is measured for applied in-plane magnetic fields comparable to the fourfold magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the film, resulting in large-angle in-plane quasistatic motion of the magnetization. We show that the vari...

Exchange Anisotropy in Epitaxial and Polycrystalline NiO/NiFe Bilayers

(001) oriented NiO/NiFe bilayers were grown on single crystal MgO (001) substrates by ion beam sputtering in order to determine the effect that the crystalline orientation of the NiO antiferromagnetic layer has on the magnetization curve of the NiFe ferromagnetic layer. Simple models predict no exchange anisotropy for the (001)-oriented surface, which in its bulk termination is magnetically com...

Spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance induced by the spin Hall effect.

We demonstrate that the spin Hall effect in a thin film with strong spin-orbit scattering can excite magnetic precession in an adjacent ferromagnetic film. The flow of alternating current through a Pt/NiFe bilayer generates an oscillating transverse spin current in the Pt, and the resultant transfer of spin angular momentum to the NiFe induces ferromagnetic resonance dynamics. The Oersted field...

Probing magnetic anisotropy effects in epitaxial CrO2 thin films

The magnetic anisotropy in ferromagnetic chromium dioxide thin films (Tc;393 K) grown epitaxially on ~100! TiO2 substrates, is probed using precise rf transverse susceptibility (xT) measurements. Singular peaks in xT are observed that are associated with the anisotropy (6HK) and switching (6Hs) fields in CrO2. Theoretical calculations of xT based on a simple coherent rotation model display rema...

Monodisperse FePt nanoparticles and ferromagnetic FePt nanocrystal superlattices

Synthesis of monodisperse iron-platinum (FePt) nanoparticles by reduction of platinum acetylacetonate and decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl in the presence of oleic acid and oleyl amine stabilizers is reported. The FePt particle composition is readily controlled, and the size is tunable from 3- to 10-nanometer diameter with a standard deviation of less than 5%. These nanoparticles self-assemb...
